Cleansing and the Anti-Inflammatory Diet

So this workshop on cleansing-cooking and lifestyle  is  June 4th 

Now you and a cynical Tina Turner might ask:

 What does SPRING  have to do with it? 

That would be because this upcoming season  is full of rites of passage.

Belting out Beltane and May days ahead, spring is the harbinger of  bursting buds and vitality coming out through the soil. Out with the old, in with the new. 

 And so it follows, it is the RIGHT time to get excited about the cleansing scene- closets,  body, mind and all. 

And the topic will be?  

  1. Cleansing --Why for and how?
  2. The Anti-Inflammatory Diet --  great tasty recipes and how-tos! 

The  time  is right for doing what?

  • giving your emunctories ** attention  

  • boosting  the detoxification system

  • improving  elimination

  • boosting  metabolism 

  • improving digestion  

** the emunctories are our organs of elimination- the routes  by which are body carries out toxins: skin, kidneys, colon and lungs. 

 

Yes and why is do we bother this whole cleansing /clean diet "trend"? 

Well, it is indeed trendy now.

Pop stars and divas regularly dish on how this keeps them lithe, lean and o' so energetically charismatic to be topping the twitter charts.  But the fact is that mammals have been doing it in the natural world before Gwenyth Paltrow hit the scene. Most cultures and traditions across space and time took time out for fasting, cleansing and giving the body a break.  Often these periods of cleansing and fasting were tied to spiritual/sacred/earth revering practices so they were really embedded holistically in the cultural life. We have a harder time imbedding such healing "aps" unless they come on our handheld device and fit in the multi-multi-tasking mania. If that sounds close to home, I must tell you  that there is surely a mind/body connection to cleansing. De-cluttering affects the emotional landscape as well as the physical.   I love to explore this as a way to tonify the nervous system,  and we shall in this workshop.  But for short and sweet more medically minded-  here is an physiological answer relevant for  people who love food  and eating in 2011. 

Why? So that your body has an easier time  doing the above list AND absorbing the nutrients from you vitamins/supplements and HEALTHY food choices. 

 All this helps you to  actually GET the benefits out of  the time and investment  that you are ALREADY  making in these earth sustaining, body-loving, activities:

  • growing your food

  • or purchasing local, organic

  • holding a commitment to eating REAL (unprocessed) FOOD,  creating healthy dishes.

Lastly -- doing all this  alongside all that  "spring has sprung energy"  that nature orchestrates from  underground and behind the scenes is no accident. Spring cleansing has the power to move us forward from our winter slumber to having the energy we desire to fully enjoy the fuller days ahead!
